“PORT Blair should henceforth be considered Independent India's new place of pilgrimage by all patriotic Indians”, said the Deputy Prime Minister L.K. Advani. He was releasing, The Twin Titans (a set of five books on Veer Savarkar and Subhas Chandra Bose by Dr Harindra Srivastava) at the India Habitat Center, New Delhi. Just as the devout considers it their duty to visit one or other of their sacred places it should be considered almost like a religious duty of every Indian to visit the Cellular Jail in Port Blair, where Veer Savarkar was imprisoned, he emphasised. Shri Advani said that whether it was Subhas Chandra Bose; Veer Savarkar; Gandhiji or Bhagat Singh, they all, in spite of their differing approaches, had a common goal namely, to attain freedom. Therefore we should set aside our personal differences and work for the growth of the country.

Shri Advani appreciated the literary endeavour of Dr Srivastava, and Prabhat Prakashan for enlightening the masses about the life and times of Veer Savarkar and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.

Shri Jai Prakash Agrawal, Chairman Surya Foundation and Managing Director Bharat, Prakashan (Delhi) Limited said to appreciate Veer Savarkar's intense patriotism it is necessary to read his works. Agrawal said that though 'Subhas Bose and Veer Savarkar belonged to two different regions of India, they had a common mission, namely, liberation of the Motherland from the clutches of the imperial power. Whether or not they succeeded against the formidable odds is not as important as the spirit and determination with which they put up their fight to achieve their goal. Attaining martyrdom is more venerable than winning a kingdom, he said. Shri Agrawal felt that people who struggle, suffer and die for a noble cause live for ever. And what can be nobler than struggle for the liberation of one's Motherland, he said.

Shri Agrawal further said that we Indians should work together for the uplift of our country. He shared some of his personal experiences with the audience pertaining to his visit to the Cellular Jail.

Appreciating the work of Dr Srivastava, Shri Agrawal said that such books need to be widely circulated.

Shri Prafull Goradia, Editor BJP Today said that despite the fact that Veer Savarkar was the initial exponent of Hindutva, few people are aware about his, contribution to Indian political thought. Comparing Netaji with Mahatma Gandhi, Shri Goradia said, that although Netaji accelerated India's struggle for Independence, his services were never duly recognised.

The author of the set of books published earlier said that Veer Savarkar's work is so extensive that even if one adds 1,000 pages to the works of Milton and Shakespear combined, it would be no match for Savarkar's writings. Dr Srivastava said that it took him 20 years to write these books and during those years he visited each and every place of the world connected with the life of Veer Savarkar and Subhas Chandra Bose.

Dr Srivastava said that Netaji's was a towering personality who fascinated writers and readers alike. Even Nepoleon, Lenin, Stalin, Hitler and Churchill have not inspired as many writers, biographers and admirers. He said that in order to understand the uniqueness of Netaji's vision and programmes for realising them, it is essential to his resonant optimism rooted in the faith that the darkest hour always precedes the dawn.

Former Central Minister Shri Vasant Sathe proposed a vote of thanks and appealed that Veer Savarkar should be awarded Bharat Ranta, posthumously.

S/Shri Balbir Punj, MP and Shyam Sunder of Prabhat Prakashan graced the occasions.
