Demanding that Kanchi Shankaracharya’s fresh formula for settlement of the Ayodhya issue be made public, VHP general secretary Praveen Togadia on Monday warned of a Big agitation that will change the course of country’s politics” if the disputed land was not handed over to Hindus “unconditionally” for construction of Ram
Temple.

Taking objection to secret parleys to resolve the vexed issue, Togadia said any proposal that compromises on self-respect of Hindus would not be acceptable “even over our dead bodies” and made it clear that the claims over Kashi and Mathura lands would continue to be on VHP’s agenda.

“Why is this secretive talks? Ayodhya is not an issue concerning an individual or organization but a matter of faith for millions of Hindus,” he said at a press conference here.

He said the nation has a “right to know” details of the seer’s new formula sent to All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) last week.

While refraining from criticizing Kanchi Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswati, whose fresh initiative has raised expectations of an early solution to the dispute, the VHP leader, however, made it clear that they would not accept “mortgaging Hindu pride”.

“We are not sabotaging anybody’s efforts and are not against negotiated settlement.

But, it should involve handing over of Ram Janmasthan to Hindus unconditionally. We want Ram temple at any cost and by any method”.

Asked about Kanchi seer’s remark that the solution to Ayodhya dispute would be found by July 6, Togadia said, “any Hindu Shankaracharya should be confident. We are also confident that a temple will be built at the birthplace of Lord Ram. History will prove it”.

While expressing reverence towards Kanchi seer, Togadia, however, said the Shankaracharya “may not be knowing what the PMO (Prime Minister’s Office) is doing”.

Asked why the government is not involving VHP in the latest round of efforts to find a solution to Ayodhya imbroglio, he shot back “ask the government about it.

We have not been having any dialogue with the Vajpayee government since February last year. But we expect them (government) to inform the nation”.

Warning of an intensified agitation, he said a national executive meeting of VHP, scheduled to be held in Raipur on June 27-28, will deliberate on future course of agitational programme.

A meeting of the saints in the first week of July would decide the shape of the agitation, he said, adding “we will ask for 3.5 million cadre to be ready for a prolonged agitation for the sake of Ram temple and to protect the self-respect of Hindu society”

Rejecting the idea of building a mosque alongside, the proposed temple at Ayodhya, the VHP leader said” if that is the case, let us first build a temple near Mecca Masjid. If it cannot be done, then there is no question of allowing construction a mosque in Ayodhya”.

Cautioning Muslims against supporting the legacy of “foreign invaders and their atrocities,” he said, “if today’s Muslims, who have nothing to do with the atrocities of Babar and Aurangzeb, support the foreign invaders, then they will lose a place of honour in the hearts of Hindus”.
