A Sunni Muslim body today demanded that the Congress-led UPA Government appoint a Muslim as Deputy Prime Minister, saying this was necessary to bring the community into mainstream politics and urged for reservation for Muslims in jobs.
"Considering that Muslims are the second largest community in the country, they should have greater representation in the Government. This can be brought about by appointing a Muslim as Deputy Prime Minister," Moulana Muhammad Tauseef Raza Khan, President of the All-India Sunni Jame-A-Tul-Awam Muslim Trust told reporters here.
He demanded reservations for Muslims in the police and Provincial Armed Constabularies (PACs).
He said in the coming Assembly elections in Bihar, Jharkhand and Maharashtra, parties should give adequate nominations to more Muslims.
On the killing of three alleged
LeT terrorists in a police encounter in Ahmedabad, Khan said the incident
should be probed by the CBI.
