Intelligence sleuths believe Karnataka has been surveyed for mid-August strike
After London, terrorists could be targeting Bangalore's vulnerable spots. Intelligence sleuths have gathered information that Bangalore could be a possible target of Laskar-e-Toiba terrorists. The LeT has surveyed India's Silicon City for a vulnerable target to wreak havoc and strike at its IT economy in mid-August, sources said.
However, "that need not be Vidhana Soudha or big IT firms. Terrorists may target a thickly populated public place, like they did in London to create a terror wave," an official said, refusing to be identified.
The official reasoned that the timing of a strike could be around independence Day when Delhi and Srinagar get formidable security cover with uniformed men at all potential targets.
The Lashkar was trying to explore places beyond Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir. Their first target has been Bangalore - the fastest growing infotechnology hub-and a team of Lashkar members had done a survey of potential targets in not only Bangalore but also in Mysore, Mandya and Dakshina Kannada districts.
"Apart from Vidhana Soudha, ITPL and IT firms like Infosys and Wipro, the militants have done a complete survey of crowded places like Bangalore Railway Station, Kempe Gowda Bus terminus, KR Market, KRS dam, Mysore Palace, Dharmastala temple among others," the official said.
LeT has a history of orchestrating attacks in India and its cadres are well networked, survey with computers, gadgets and gizmos, making them tough to track. Police had recovered from the body of a terrorist, killed in Mumbai two years ago, a driving license issued in Bangalore, he said. Laptops recovered from terrorists who attacked the parliament had revealed a detailed mapping of the Parliament building.
"It is quite possible that the militants
would have prepared a similar plan of attack even on their targets
in Bangalore and elsewhere," the sources said.
