The Jamaat of Mela Thirupoonthuruthi town Panchayat in Thanjavur District has slapped a fine of Rs.5,000 on Shahul Hameed Badusha for taking a Hindu youth Shivakumar on his pillion a few days ago.  The Jamaat had earlier issued a fatwa that no Muslim should have any truck with Shivakumar, who is also a business partner of Shahul Hameed in his cable TV business.

Defying the diktat, Shahul Hameed took Shivakumar in his two-wheeler on July 12.  Shivakumar was a functionary of the BJP till now. Jamaat president Mohammed Hanif (65) said  Shivakumar was an RSS element who had been inciting trouble in the area for the last 15 years. The police had a big file on his activities.

But Shivakumar defended himself saying the jamaat had directed the local Muslims not to interact with him  since he had exposed the various illegal activities indulged in by Hanif.

For his part, Shahul Hameed alleged that he and his father Abdul Rahman (60) were roughed up by Jamaat members when the issue of his 'offering lift' to Shivakumar was discussed.  Following the assault, his father had to be hospitalised for a few days.  Saying that though he had not been ostracised by the jamaat,  Hanif's supporters treated him and his family members with contempt.
