Andhra Pradesh Minister for Hindu Religious Endowments M Satyanarayan has taken serious exception to leaflets ridiculing the Krishna Pushkaram rituals, being distributed allegedly by Christian organisations.
The leaflets, which question the spiritual benefits of a dip in the Krishna river and pour scorn on worship of idols saying they are only pieces of stone and metal, were being distributed near the bathing ghats on the river bank and at Lord Amarlingeswar Swamy temple in Amaravathi, about 30 km from here last night.
Indignant at the language of the leaflets, Satyanarayan directed the police to stop their distribuion and prosecute the authors for hurting the sensibilities of Hindus.
About one lakh pilgrims took a dip
in the Krishna river at Amavarthi yesterday, the second day of the 12-day
Krishna Pushakarams. Serpentine queues were also witnessed at Lord Amarlingeswara
temple.
