NEW DELHI: The United States on Thursday said it will work with India on countering terrorism.
"We will work with our Indian partners and friends to achieve the common objective of ensuring that such acts of terrorism will not be repeated," US ambassador to India Robert D Blackwill said addressing the staff of the embassy which opened for public dealings.
Stating that US President George Bush has emphasised the need to take every precaution to protect the American citizens at home and around the world from further attacks, the envoy said, "Indian moral support and sympathy has been translated into effective protection for our mission and its personnel."
"The Government of India quickly pledged all support needed to assure our security, which was provided immediately. You have all seen evidence of this enhanced protection,'' he said adding that the External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh spoke to him within 20 minutes of the terrorist attacks reported in the media.
The embassy, meanwhile, has created an electronic condolence book on the website www.usembassy.State.gov/delhi.html. Anyone wishing to express their sympathy or regret may register their messages at this site, it said in a press release.
The embassy also announced cancellation
of the jazz and fusion concert by the Baum, Bailey and Harris trio scheduled
for September 17 here. ( PTI )
