In what Pakistan will see as defence of its position regarding the Mumbai blasts, the US state department has said "it has not yet seen any determination from the Indian government" saying that Pakistan is involved in the bombings.

Asked to comment on the Indian allegation that Pakistan was involved, department deputy spokesman Philip T.Reeker said on Thursday: "We are all working together to fight (terrorism), including Pakistan."

He reminded the questioner that both the White House and the state department had strongly condemned the bombings.

"And we have talked many times about the support that we have had from Pakistan, from President Musharraf, and we all have to keep doing more all around the world. And that is what we are endeavouring to do," he added.

Mr Reeker said the United States was "in close touch with our Indian colleagues. We are in close touch with our Pakistani colleagues. We are in close touch with so many governments around the world to cooperate on fighting terror and using all of the different tools at our disposal to do that." He termed "absurd" the report by the Guardian that Pakistan and the US had reached a deal for not capturing Osama bin Laden alive.
