Police opened fire on a group of Muslim villagers in Andhra Pradesh's Kurnool district on Tuesday, injuring at least three of them.
The villagers had allegedly violently protested a Ganapati procession passing through their locality, burning shops and pelting stones at policemen. Police said they were forced to open fire to disperse the mob.
Three police constables were injured during the attack by the villagers, Kurnool's Superintendent of Police N Sanjay said.
The situation in the village is
"tense but under control", Sanjay added.
