The Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday hailed the people
of Jammu and Kashmir for "making the current assembly
elections successful."

The conduct of polls would not have been successful had
the people not come out to vote in large numbers, senior
party vice president K L Sharma said here.

Mr Sharma said the response the people towards the polit-
ical activity demonstrated that they were in favour if
democracy, stressing that all problems in the state could
be solved through democratic process.

He added that people of the state had also realised it.
The BJP is contesting from 53 assembly constituencies in
the state where polling for 60 of 87 seats is already
completed.

Criticising Pakistan for "its efforts to prevent the
formation of a democratically-elected government in J&K,
he asked Islamabad to desist from interfering in India's
internal matters.

"Pakistan should understand that its evil designs on
Kashmir cannot succeed," he said adding that: "Sooner or
later it will have to mend its ways and withdraw support
to militants operating in J&K."

Referring to autonomy, he said that BJP is in favour of
more powers, particularly financial powers, to all the
states and not only for J & K.

"Talking of autonomy is deceiving people and those propa-
gating it should tell people what king of autonomy they
want," he said.

About Article 370, Mr Sharma asked. What purpose has the
Article served during all these years. The BJP wants that
integration of J&K to be complete and final, he stated.

Mr Sharma also said that the BJP was not "anti-muslim but
the best friend of minorities."
