It was meant to be a bi-partisan conclave of the Prime Minster and Chief Ministers to be hosted by Karnataka CM S M Krishna in Bangalore later this month. The aim was to narrow differences in the political leadership on economic reforms. But Congress chief Sonia Gandhi has pulled Krishna up for it.
The result is that the Davos-type
conclave which was to be held on October 25 and 26 near Bangalore, is off.
Krishna told the PM that the dates were not suitable as they coincided
with Dusshera festivities. Sonia, party sources say, apparently did not
want the congress to be seen on the same side as the NDA Government on
the issue of economic reforms.
