More than a hundred Indian community leaders will join US President George W. Bush in celebrating Diwali for the first time in the White House.
Giving in to a long-standing demand of the Indian community here, which pointed out that the White House celebrates festivals of all other religions but not Diwali, Bush has agreed to the festivities, which would be held at the Indian Treaty Room.
A hundred indian community leaders
from different parts of the country would attend the celebration organised
by abel guerra, public liason officer at the white house. However the event
is closed to the press, even to those with regular white house press credentials,
but the attendees are free to publicize the event afterwards, white house
sources told pti.
