Not true

Sir,

I am surprised to read a news item titled "Hotels and shops turn Christians away" published in your September 11, 2005 issue taken from UCA news agency. I enquired from at least two persons named in the news and found that it seems to be fabricated orexaggerated. Fr. Paul Unandanparambil, Parish Priest of Deogarh Catholic church, who is referred to have taken the matter to the District Collector said that he knew nothing about the issue. He has never made a statement.

Fr. Ratikant Ranjit, a catholic priest from the diocese of Cuttack-Bhubaneswar who has been referred to have visited the place and denied entry into hotel and barber shop, denied having come to Deogarh. He said he had not come to Deogarh at all and had not made any statement regarding this incident. So I don't know the credibility of the news.

We are having tension in Deogarh district, particularly in the town. Now it is rather peaceful. If such news reaches the people of that area, I don't know what reaction they will have. I asked Fr. Paul and he said they had no such problem. "Our people-have access to shops and other commercial infrastructure," he said.

I appeal that such news, which has a negative impact, may be avoided or published after confirmation.
