An alert Election Commission shifted CRPF Inspector General (Bihar) AK Chibber and his deputy, DIG Alok Raj from poll duty for secretly meeting Lalu Prasad late on Sunday night at his official residence 1, Anne Marg.
Shortly after writing to the Ministry of Home Affairs to shift these two CRPF officials with immediate effect, the Ministry promptly replaced the two officers by CRPF IG Suhas Goswami and DIG GSL Saxena. Mr Goswami was posted in Kolkata, while Mr Saxena was brought in from Ranchi.
Sharply reacting to the EC's order, Lalu said, "The two officials were sent to me by the DG of CRPF after I sought security and if they have been transferred for this, it is wrong."
"There is nothing wrong in top officials of the central force visiting me to review the security in the night," he added. The CRPF officers' meeting with the RJD supremo prompted swift condemnation from NDA in New Delhi with BJP leader Arun Jaitley terming it as "an act of desperation by the UPA".
"It is also a clear indication that the NDA was heading for a clear majority" said Mr Jaitley, while seeking to know on whose behest the CRPF officers went to meet Mr Yadav.
