[Note from the Hindu Vivek Kendra: Will the secularists now wake up to the threat of terrorism from the infiltrators from Bangladesh, instead of supporting them?]
While the Rajasthan police are interrogating pilgrims from Bangladesh in connection with Thursday's blast at the revered shrine of Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti in Ajmer, police officials in Mumbai have focussed on the illegal Bangladeshis in the city.
Officials of the CID Special Branch 1, the department responsible for identifying and keeping track of all Pakistanis and Bangladeshis entering the city, say they have intensified their search for illegal immigrants since Thursday night.
"Last month, we deported around 450 Bangladeshis and the figure is expected to go up two fold in the coming month," said Senior Police Inspector Vishwanath Satam.
"Though the raids are continuous, many a times we too are baffled by the increasing number of illegal Bangladeshis in the city. With forged documents available freely in the market, it becomes difficult to identify them," he added.
More to come
Another official said Pakistan has been conducting terror-training camps in Bangladesh for quite some time and that there was a possibility of trained Bangladeshis infiltrating India through its porous border.
"We'll be keeping a check on railway stations and public spaces, including pockets like Shivajinagar, Reay Road and Malwani, where Bangladeshis are known to stay," he added.
Women power
Sources revealed that women play a key role in acting as entry points for men trained in terror attacks.
"Many girls come across the border to work in the sex trade. They bring these men into the city as relatives. These men lie low for a while, before contacting the sleeper cells in the city and informing them of their arrival," revealed Anita Yadav (name changed), a constable who has escorted several illegal Bangladeshi women to the border for deportation.
