The NGO, Pratham, has threatened The Pioneer's reporters for having written a report against them.
The Pioneer had carried a story on its front page titled - "Lure of UN funds drives NGO to rescue kids" on Thursday. The investigation revealed that rather than concern for the rehabilitation of the children, utilisation of funds under a UN funded scheme had prompted the raids in trans-Yamuna areas in which 477 child labourers were rescued.
Junaid Khan, coordinator of the NGO, called this reporter at 3.20 am on Friday and threatened why he has written anti-piece against the NGO. "Why don't you write against the labour department and those officials who are not cooperating with us. We are providing fooding and boarding from our own pockets. The Government has not provided even security personnel where these children are kept," said Junaid.
When this reporter pointed out that this is the not time to call him, he started shouting and he made several calls between 3.20 am to 5 am, threatening that he would sue the newspaper.
The matter was brought to the notice of senior officials of labour department, who assured that they will look into the matter.
