The BJP today charged the Uttar Pradesh government with playing in the hands of the minorities to disallow the return to Mau of Hindus, whose shops and houses were destroyed in the communal riots last month.
Demanding a probe by a sitting Allahabad High Court judge on Mau riots, BJP state president Keshri Nath Tripathi claimed the district authorities -- on the directives of higherups -- were not allowing the Hindus to resettle.
Addressing a press conference here, Mr Tripathi demanded the Act be amended so that the tenants displaced in the riots have the right to retain their old destroyed shop or house.
Mr Tripathi will visit Mau on November 14 while a delegation of parliamentarians led by BJP national vice-president Kalyan Singh would go there before the Parliament session.
Recently, a four-member BJP delegation visited Mau and submitted a report to the state leadership.
The report claimed the government played a biased role during the riots and the majority community had been harrassed a lot.
