Transfer reserve forest to TTD: State Cabinet

The State Cabinet on Thursday decided to approach the Centre urging it to transfer the reserve forest around Tirumala Hills to Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD).

While Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy, who presided the meeting, felt that an "unnecessary controversy" has been raised over the jurisdiction of TTD, Endowments Minister JC Diwakar Reddy is understood to have dwelt on the alleged propagation of Christianity on Tirumala Hills and the steps taken by the TTD administration to counter the "misinformation" campaign.

Sources told this website's newspaper that in order to put an end to the speculation over the jurisdiction of TTD, the Cabinet has decided to approach the Centre. "The Chief Minister will write to the Centre urging it transfer reserve forest around the sacred Hills to the TTD," they said.

Migrant Labour: To address the problems being faced by migrant labourers and workers to the middle east countries, the state government decided to set up an NRI Cell in the General Administration Department.

The Cell will start functioning immediately. "It will coordinate with the Central government and other agencies to iron out the problems being faced by people from Andhra Pradesh residing in Middle East and other countries," sources added.

APSRTC: The Cabinet also took note of the progress made by APSRTC during the first quarter of the current financial year. The Cabinet also decided to provide Rs 58.99 crore counter guarantee to the Centre for expansion and modernisation of cooperative sugar factories in Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, Tirupati and Nellore.

It has also been decided to create a legal cell in the education department to deal with 5,000-odd court cases in the department. The Cabinet also approved inclusion of Patra caste in BC category.

The ministers should make their trips to their respective districts meaningful, the chief minister said and suggested that they should focus on other departments too.

Reddy is understood to have observed that chikungunya fever is being blown out of proportion by certain sections. However, he asked the Ministers to talk to the health department officials in their respective districts and ensure that medical help reached the needy in time.
