The claim of Bangladesh Government to the contrary notwithstanding, the Hindu minority in that country continues to face problems not only in economic and other fields but also in pursuing their religious chores. Every year Durga Puja, the most important religious festival of Hindus, is disturbed too hundreds of Durga Puja Pandals were attacked by Muslims at various places. In broad daylight Muslim miscreants and gangs (which at places included police, army personnel and local politicians) descended on pu
a pandals and demanded Jazia from the puja organisers for performing "idol worship" in Islamic Bangladesh. Muslim hordes particularly ransacked pandals in Mirzapur in Northern Bangladesh and Pirojpur, Southern Bangladesh, and reportedly kidnapped and raped hundreds of teenaged girls inside the puja pandals. Since the pattern of attack s was the same throughout Bangladesh, it is suspected that it was a well planned operation especially because no police help was available. In urban areas some policemen wer
found. Even some Bangladesh newspapers have reported some of these incidents. Unlike in the past, the press could not ignore these incidents, because the number of attacks and seriousness of atrocities crossed all limits this year. Incidentally, Calcutta press which otherwise publishes extensive despatches on Bangladesh events chose to black out the news of the atrocities. Not a single paper published any news of attacks on Hindus during the Puja. They instead published some cock and bull stories of "gal
celebration" of Durga Puja in Bangladesh. For the present, the Leftists in Basu's Bengal do not probably want the plight of the Hindus in Bangladesh to be reported in their State and invite the wrath of the Muslim infiltrator voters. This is their version of the Gujral doctrine, perhaps.
