Please refer to the Soundbite (The Pioneer, May 30), wherein Mr
Mulayam Singh Yadav has been quoted as having said in the Lok
Sabha, "We won't allow a Hitler to be born in India."

Several other speakers were heard accusing the BJP of being
fascist. Evidently these gentlemen have used expressions whose
meaning they do not understand.

If they mean terrorar violence by the word 'fascism', then these
phenomena were not the monopoly of either Adolf Hitler or any
other fascist like Benito Mussolini. Joseph Stalin, the arch
communist, and the violent terror he practised were made
legendary by Nikita Khruschev. The cold violence with which the
democratic White Americans liquidated the Red Indians in the
last century is part of history. At home, during Emergency, a
great deal of terror and some violence was used against the
people.

Fascism is an ideology which stands for class collaboration, In
contrast with capitalism which is alleged to cause class
exploitation, or communism which is class conflict. A fascist
like Hitler would promise foreign conquest. Hence war, which in
turn would require the manufacturer of armaments and the
enlistment of soldiers.

The former would mean industrial profit for the bourgeoisie and
well-paid jobs to the proletariat. The peasant youth would get
employment in uniform. And the rest of the people would benefit
from the booty and the loot.

Can there be any relation between these phenomena and Indian
culture?
