Types of Journalists in India - Weekend Observer

There are four types of journalists in India today. One,
those who have believed in the ideology of the Sangh
parivar right from the beginning of their career. Shri N
Ram defines them as saffron journalists, and has said at
a programme of budding journalists that they have no
place in the profession. Second is those who believed in
the leftist ideology, got disenchanted with the destruc-
tiveness, and in search of an alternate gravitated to-
wards Hindutva. This has been happening from the begin-
ning of the 80s, much before the demise of the Soviet
model. Third is those who are recently saying that the
BJP is not as communal as we first thought, and/or that
if the BJP is communal so are the rest, and/or what about
the casteism, etc. of the others. This change has taken
place ever since the BJP became the largest single party.
However, they are reluctant to admit that they have real-
ly changed, and in their writings their hatred of the
Sangh parivar comes out loud and clear. Fourth is the
die hard communists who have known the truth about Hin-
dutva all the time, but have made it their mission to
tell lies. This group is dependent upon government pa-
tronage, in terms of readerships at JNU and Nehru Memori-
al Museum and Library, and such like, and they see that
the coming of the power of the BJP will deprive them of a
substantial source of income and will have to work hard
to make an honest living.
