Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda has indicated that the
Congress may join the coalition government within three
months.

Mr Gowda had a long meeting with Congress president and
former prime minister P V Narasimha Rao on Sunday on his
way to Bangalore to attend the funeral of former
president Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy.

There are many in the Congress like Rajesh Pilot who have
expressed their willingness to join the government, but
Mr Rao is reluctant, party sources said.

The prime minister is very keen that the Congress joins
his government which will ensure its stability. Mr Gowda
and Mr Rao had talks for almost three hours in the
special flight. The Prime Minister told newspersons on
Monday before leaving for Delhi that he would expand his
ministry only after his government wins a vote of
confidence.

Mr Gowda is likely to seek a vote of confidence on June
11, a day before the deadline set by the President. He
welcomed the decision of the Communist Party of India to
join his ministry and hoped that his efforts to rope in
the CPM would pay off.

He said that Asom Gana Parishad has already decided to
reconsider its stand not to join the government. "Let us
see," said Mr Gowda when asked about the prospects of the
Congress joining his government.

This was Mr Gowda's first visit to his home state after
taking over as Prime Minister.
