Special Armed Force were posted outside the residence of
senior IAS officer A V Singh at Char Imli here late last
night following tension over the marriage of his son,
Mrityunjay Singh, and the daughter of IGP Shakil Raza.

According to the Habibganj police, a complaint had been
filed late last night by Raza alleging that his daughter,
Uzma Khan, had been illegally confined at the residence
of Singh, who is at present the CMD of Hindustan Ferti-
liser Corporation, Delhi.

Raza lives in the same area where many bureaucrats stay.

A posse of 17 SAF men was posted outside Singh's resi-
dence after an attempt to enter it was foiled.

S K Das, IGP (Bhopal range), confirmed the posting of SAF
jawans.

But, he added that as far as he was aware, Singh's son
had married Uzma at the Arya Samaj Temple in a legal and
proper manner.

The girl's name has been changed to Anjali Singh.

Both are above the legal age of marriage and it appears
that Anjali has entered into the alliance with full
consent.

They are second-year students of the local BSS College.

The police are silent about what prompted the posting of
SAF jawans.

Das, however, confirmed that he had received a phone call
from a former MLA in connection with the case.

It appears the police had shown some reluctance in acting
on the complaint of Raza and had initially even refused
to register a case.

This prompted Raza to summon his relatives and friends in
the city to his residence.

Raza is under suspension at present after being indicted
by the high court in a case related to his career record.

Incidentally, Singh, his wife Kiran Vijay Singh, and Raza
are 1967 batch officers, and their families have always
been close.
