Letter One
Sir, - In these times of strife and squabbling, the insertion
(March 21) by the Parsi and Irani Zoroastrians in your paper on the
occasion of 50 years of independence comes like a breath of fresh
air. ('Thank you India for over 1000 years of freedom: From the
Parsi and Irani Zoroastrians who are proud to be Indians.')
The Parsi community has fully integrated itself in the mainstream
of this country which it adopted as its motherland over a thousand
years ago. The Parsis have never demanded any special privileges
for themselves, unlike other groups, but have made a substantial
contribution towards the development of the country. Their
reiteration in the fiftieth year of independence that they are
"people always ready to serve India" needs to be emulated by
others. May their tribe increase.

Sir, -I wish to both thank and Congratulate the Parsi and Irani
Zoroastrians for their advertisement in The Times of India (March
21), it really made my day.
It is said that the Zoroastrians fled in all directions from Iran
some nine or ten centuries ago. Many Kurds, Uzbekistanis, and even
some Eastern Europeans are supposed to be descendants of those
migrants. Yet, it is only in India that they have been able to keep
their distinct identity.
Is it not because this land of Bharat respected 'religion' and
allowed a minority to practise its own faith?
Let us, in this 50th year of our Independence, re-dedicate
ourselves to this great and noble tradition.
