The Federal Front component of the United Front has strongly advocated amendment
of Article '356 to provide for various safeguards against misuse of the provision
enabling imposition of President's rule in states and for greater devolution of
finances to the states, reports PTI.
Participating in the meeting of the standing committee of the inter-state council
here yesterday, parties like the DMK, the AGP and the Telugu Desam called for
insertion of a provision for prior approval by Parliament of proclamations made by
the Centre while imposing President's rule in states
The views of the DMK, which hid been demanding scrapping of Article 356, were
articulated by industry minister, Murasoli Maran, who was supported by chief
ministers of Andhra Pradesh and Assam, N Chandrababu Naidu and PK Mahanta
