The Vishwa Hindu Parishad today challenged the Congress (I) leader.
Mr. Sharad Pawar, to prove the charge levelled by him that the
organisation had got funds from sources in various countries
abroad.
Addressing a press conference here, the VHP general secretary,
Acharaya Giriraj Kishore, termed as "baseless and misleading" the
statement of Mr. Pawar alleging that VHP had been receiving money
from abroad. "If he has any value for moral ethics, he should come
out with evidence to substantiate his charge or apologise to the
people for this malicious statement," he added.
Referring to the issue of Ram Mandir at Ayodhya, the Acharaya said
that there should be no misconception on this score in anyone's
mind and the formal building of the temple would be executed by the
VHP in the near future. However, he denied that VHP had dropped the
Mathura and Kashi temples from its agenda. These would be pursued
without any hindrance, he added.
Criticising the Karnataka Government's decision to notify some
places of religious importance for quarrying, he said the saints
would be going on a fast unto death in Bangalore from May 1 in
protest against this move. He warned that if steps were not taken
to redeem the situation, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad would launch an
agitation against this move.
"The Government has no moral authority to interfere in religious
matters and order quarrying at religious sites which are likely to
hurt the sentiments of the Hindu community, "he asserted.
The Acharaya also condemned the practice of sending monkeys abroad
for laboratory tests and demanded an immediate stop to this
practice.
