Trying to set the record straight with regard to the misleading
impression created that Mr L. K. Advani's Swarna Jayanti Rath Yatra
in Kerala was attached by Marxists, BJP national executive
committee member O. Rajgopal said here today that the yatra as such
had a smooth passage all through the three days it traversed the
State.

Only some of the BJP workers, who participated in the rally, were
attacked by Marxist cadres while they were going back, leading to
the hospitalisation of at least six of the former. This happened
two days back at Kanjankad, close to a place regarded by the CPI-M
as its pocket borough, Mr Rajgopal added.

The BJP leader was happy to note that the yatra had a successful
passage through the State, with the rousing receptions accorded to
it marred by no disruptions. The BJP's only complaint was about the
last-minute cancellation of the booking of 11 rooms in the
Government Guest House in Kozhikode for Mr Advani and his party,
which Mr Rajgopal suspected, could have been done at the instance
of the State Government. It had put the BJP district leaders to a
lot of tension in getting alternative accommodation for Mr Advani,
keeping in mind his 'Z' plus security categorisation.

This clarification was considered necessary in view of Chief
Minister E. K. Nayanar's emphatic denial of Mr Madan Lal Khurana's
charge in Delhi that the yatra was disrupted by the violence
unleashed by Marxist cadres at many points. Mr Nayanar cited the
absence of any reference to violence at the many Press conferences
held by Mr Advani as proof of the security provided to not only the
yatra but the many programmes arranged in its name.

Mr Nayanar attributed the murder of BJP worker Praveen Kumar, while
he was travelling in a bus, to the wrath of the workers of the
party he was associated with earlier.
