Al-Umma the dreaded fundamentalist outfit was founded by a communalist and
ISI agent Pasha to coordinate the different Muslim terrorist groups in
Tamil Nadu. It was launched in 1993 in the wake of Ayodhya episode.

Recently the police arrested Pasha in connection with the conspiracy to
blow up Chennai. Earlier in 1993 Pasha along with sixteen others was
arrested in connection with communal riot that erupted at Kottaimedu, a
suburb of Coimbatore.

The long list of violent attacks by Muslim fundamentalists on individuals
and organisations in Tamil Nadu begins in 1982 with the murderous attempt
on Shri Jana Krishnamurthy, BJP Vice-President at Coimbatore. As of March
1997, 32 individuals had been killed including Shri Rajagopalan, State
president of Hindu Munnai. A total of eleven persons. including two women,
died when the RSS office at Chennai was blasted with a sophisticated
explosive device in 1993. Senior CBI official commented: "without the
backing of international agencies such sophisticated devices cannot be
used. This is the first instance of PETN+RDX mix being used". However,
senior politicians first tried to allege that the blast was "an internal
affair" and then they tried to say, that the attitudes of some
organisations 'provoked' the terrorists. Thus the general public was not
alerted to the dangers of ISI infiltration.

Violent incidents like the RSS karyalaya blast (8-8-1993), Hindu Munnani
office blast (144-95), parcel bomb that killed the wife of a Hindu Munnai
activist (3-7-1995), in Nagapattinam and the recent seizure of large
quantities of explosives from Kodungaiyur-a Chennai suburb (these
explosives were suspected to have been intended to pull-off a Mumbai like
serial blasts in Chennai), and the increased use of improvised pipe-bombs
in Coimbatore region indicate that the fundamentalists in the State are
thoroughly being trained by an agency like ISI.

In Madurai, Coimbatore and Dindigul districts, many active workers of the
Hindu cause. like Shri Rajagopalan. State President of Hindu Munnani and a
leading advocate, Veera Ganeshan of Hindu Munnai, Manickam and Selvaraj of
BJP, etc.. have been assassinated. A clandestine arms factory was unearthed
at Kottaimedu area of Coimbatore by, the Tamil Nadu police in 1993. A large
cache of arms, ammunitions, explosives and other dangerous weapons were
seized during this raid.
