The former prime minister, Mr V P Singh, has regretted joining the
politics, saying "politics is a highly egocentric process which is why
satisfaction is not there."

Explaining how politics had lolled his human sensitivities leaving him
burnt out, Mr Singh said that he was now "n to undo this process and
'recapture' what he was before joining politics.

In his second part of interview to a private TV channel, to be telecast
tomorrow, the former prime minister said "basically I am trying to
recapture what I was before I came to politics. I can't recapture it fully
and at this age I know I cant's get success in painting or poetry.

"But it gives me joy. And then its not just a question of doing this or
that . There is also a portion of undoing what you have done. Politics is
like a rocket When it reaches its peak internally it is burnt-out," he said.

Mr Singh said "to me understanding was my ideal, understanding other's
feelings. Today my sense of understanding people at the personal level and
sharing with them has been deadened."

Stating that at the people's level, politics 'was like poetry", Mr Singh
said it was quite different at colleagues level.

"At colleagues level it is backbiting, leg-pulling and all those thing. You
have to seek approval downwards. You have to seek approval upwards. You
have to fight your colleagues," he said.

A politician looks for applause, that is a very important thing in
political life and applause means approval by others. "On the other hand
creative activity is approval from within yourself. You don't want claps
from anybody. If you enjoy it you enjoy it. There is a world of difference
between politics and creative activity," he said.

On his future, Mr Singh said that he now wanted to do things that gave him
joy and would help him recapture his lost human sensitivity and understanding.
