The West Bengal unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is planning to
take the Left Front Minister for Higher Secondary Education Satya Sadhan
Chakraborty, who co-authored a text book defaming the party, to court.

Rashtra Bigyaner Ruparekha, a prescribed text book for Class XI and XII,
according to party sources here, gave a distorted version of the party both
ideologically and politically with "the sinister design to carry out
disinformation campaign against the BJP."

The state party unit here which will also move court against the West
Bengal Board of Higher Secondary Education, told ENS that "we will not
tolerate such motivated campaign to malign out political stature that too
in the minds of school-going children."

The state unit has already submitted a memorandum to the West Bengal
Governor Ragunath Reddy seeking permission to file a case against Chakraborty.

In the chapter, Opinion, Political Parties and Indian Situation, the
prescribed book said: "The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) happens to be the
second largest political party after the Congress.... Considering their
political agenda, many people believe that the rise of BJP symbolises the
rise of Hindu fundamentalism which the party propagates for establishing a
Hindu state.

"The BJP which happens to be the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS)'s
political plank, thus has a political mission to spread and propagate the
cause for a Hindu state, Hindutva and Hindi.

"The BJP is trying to seize political power by using its ideology of
Hindutva and has close links with parties and organisations like, Shiv
Sena, Bajrang Dal and Hindu Mahashabha, who believe in similar political

Drawing an analogy between the rise of the Nazis under Hitler and the BJP,
the chapter said: "The aggressive racist theory of Hitler finds a similar
echo in communal thinking of the BJP which wants to use Hindutva theory
against a few sections of the Indian society. If Hitler converted racism
into a political theory, the BJP using the same tactic to shape us
religious feelings into a new political vision for seizure of political

Hurt more by the analogy between the rise of Nazis in Germany and the BJP
in India, Tapan Sikdar, one of the national secretaries of the party, told
ENS that "even if we do not get permission from the Governor, we will not
stop for we can always file the case against the WBHSB and the author who
wrote the book jointly with the Minister and we are doing shortly.

Planning to take on what it termed as "sinister propaganda," Sikdar added,
"we have several other alternatives."
