The faction-redden All India Babri Masjid Action Committee is
heading for a showdown over the issue of a dialogue with the BJP
on Ayodhya imbroglio.
The faction led by its convenor, Mr Zafaryab Jilani, is against
any dialogue with the Sangh Parivar over the Ayodhya issue while
its national spokesperson, Mr Javed Habib, and other prominent
Muslim leaders have adopted a conciliatory attitude towards the.
Sangh Parivar for solving the Ayodhya imbroglio.
Mr Jilani said here on Sunday that any Muslim leader holding
parleys with the BJP cannot claim to represent the AIBMAC.
"The impression sought to be created by some persons that the
AIBMAC is having a dialogue with the BJP for the coming Lok Sabha
election is totally unfounded and misleading. The committee is
not a political party and it has never entered into such
political negotiations," said Mr Jilani.
He said that the AIBMAC had repeatedly decided not to enter into
any negotiations with the Bharatiya Janata Party, the Vishwa
Hindu Parishad or the Shiv-Sena regarding the Babri Masjid issue
"as these parties have proved themselves unworthy of any
reliance".
The All India Babri Masjid Action Committee convenor charged that
these parties had demolished the disputed structure even after
giving an undertaking to the contrary to the Supreme Court.
Mr Jilani has also questioned the credentials of Mr Javed Habib
as the leader of the AIBMAC.
He said that Mr Habib and Abu Barkat Nazmi of Meerut had resigned
>from the membership of the AIBMAC on December 25, 1992 and their
resignations had been accepted.
He said that these persons had again started attending the
meetings of the committee since October 1994 on their own
initiative.
Mr Jilani claimed that Mr Habib could neither claim to be the
spokesperson of the AIBMAC or was he authorised to give any
statement on behalf of the committee=94.
Mr Javed Habib, however, appears to have turned the tables on Mr
Jilani by organising the convention of Qaumi Mushawaraat
(Federation of Muslim Organisations) in New Delhi on Sunday.
The convention would finally decide the issue of opening a
dialogue with the BJP.
The Mushawaraat has also stated that it didn consider the BJP
as ntouchable
Mr Habib accused the ecular parties of treating the Muslims as
a vote bank all these years and doing nothing for their material
welfare.
The Mushawaraat is particularly sore with the two prime ministers
of the United Front Government.
Mr Habib also accuses Mr Jilani of playing second fiddle to the
Samajwadi Party of Mr Mulayam Singh Yadav.
The BMAC in Uttar Pradesh has been reduced to a mere
pocketborough of Mr Yadav, he alleged.
Mr Jilani and Mr Mohammed Azam Khan, Samajwadi Party MP, have
converted the BMAC into a Mulayam Action Committee, he charged.
