Recently, a book on former finance minister Manmohan Singh was
released in New Delhi. Speaking on the occasion. finance minister
P Chidambaram praised his predecessor sky high. He said that he
had the honour of working with Singh and also gave full credit to
him for the liberalisation process. Moreover, Chidambaram
expressed his belief that Manmohan Singh would play still greater
role in the country's destiny. Short of saying directly that
Singh would be the Prime Minister in a few months from now. he
said everything. The gathering was full of lobbyists of the US in
India. One of them, Murli Deora - a former MP and a known blue
eyed politician of the US establishment - told a reputed
Intellectual that Manmohan Singh would be the prime ministerial
candidate of the Congress. He would have a full backing of Sonia
Gandhi also,
Just within 72 hours Sonia Gandhi decided to campaign for
Congress. It is learnt that the 'Islamic world lobby' would
support the choice of Manmohan Singh as against Vajpayee. Parties
having good relations with this lobby would get all help of the
network controlled by them. They may even exert pressure on
parties to effect Poll alliances to defeat BJP and its allies.
