The BJP on Monday criticised Congress president Sitaram Kesri for
saying that the RSS was behind the blasts in Coimbatore.

"The Congress president seems to have gone mad. He is feeling
neglected, no one is giving him any importance, that is why he is
coming out with statements which make no sense," BJP general
secretary M. Venkaiah Naidu told a news conference.

He said while the entire country was condoling the deaths in the
blast, the Congress was yet to come out with a statement. He said
the Intelligence Bureau had officially informed the BJP about the
threat to the life of its senior leaders Atal Behari Vajpayee and
L.K. Advani. According to Mr Naidu, the IB officials had come to
Bhubaneswar during the BJP's national executive meeting there in
December and apprised the party general secretaries about the
threat. He claimed that an IB official met him four days back and
told him that the threat had become grave, with external as well
as internal forces conspiring to "finish the BJP leadership."

The Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh also came down heavily on Mr
Kesri for holding it responsible for the Coimbatore blasts in
saying "he had lost his mental balance."

"Whereas the home minister. the Tamil Nadu chief minister and all

by the people, by his utterly irresponsible and unsustainable
charges." "It is because of this that his words have lost their
weight and the Congress has been compelled to take resort to the
crutches of foreign origin.

In a statement. Jamaat-e-Islami Hind secretary general Muhammad
Jafar called for strong action against those responsible for the
Coimbatore blasts. Mr Jafar called upon the people to "strengthen
the hands of democratic forces and defeat the communal and
fascist parties and candidates in order to save the country and
the community from destruction."

Meanwhile, the BJP has lodged a complaint with the Election
Commission alleging booth capturing in 218 centres in Bihar, 129
of them being in Patna. Mr Naidu said in Nawada district where
47 booths were captured, two were captured by the "policemen on

Former state minister Sarafaraj Ahmed himself was involved in
three incidents of booth capturing in Kishanganj, he alleged. He
added that in Andhra Pradesh, the ruling party was "terrorising"
