Seventy five per cent of urban ,educated Indians want the BJPled
coalition government to protect Indian industry Sixty two per
cent Indians prefer Indian products to foreign ones.

These are the findings of an opinion Poll commissioned by weekly
newsmagazine outlook's. The results of the poll have been
detailed in the latest issue of the magazine. According to an
analysis of the poll findings, there is an over whelming support
on the ground for swadeshi policies, and there s an and-MNC
sentiment.

indifferent to the country of origin of product they purchase.

The six-city street corner survey, which was carried out by Mode
for Outlook, states that 78 percent of respondents believe that
foreign companies should be allowed to set up business in India
only in high technology areas.

According to an official statement released by Outlook, 75
percent of 1,220 respondents from Chennai, Delhi Mumbai,
Bangalore and Hyderabad feel that the new government should
protect Indian companies. Only 16 percent think the government
should not do this, and 9 per cent are undecided. The
structured questionnaire in which respondents were asked to
answer in "yes" and "no to queries aimed at gauging the
perceptions of Indians, towards the govermnents policies.

Outlook has also pointed out that the questions were not
interpretative, but to give it a perspective the magazine has
tried to analyse the findings.

The average urban educated Indian does not want to see India only
as a market for multinationals. He is not interested in buying
multinational products unless the products are made in India.

On its part Outlook has stated that the poll highlights a
powerful nationalistic wave that is sweeping through urban India,
a wave that was indicated by the strong results that the BJP and
its allies turned in most of the largest cities of India.
