The Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh has decided to come out openly
against those making allegations against the organisation.

The RSS took former Congress president Sitaram Kesri to court two
months back for his allegation that the RSS was behind the serial
blasts in Coimbatore.

The sangh has come down heavily on Mizoram chief minister
Lalthanhawla for his recent statement that the RSS was trying to
create communal tension in the state by inciting the Reang
community.

On Tuesday, all-India prachar pramukh of the RSS Srikant Joshi
issued an open letter to Mr Lalthanhawla saying his was a fit
example of a thief accusing the policeman of theft, since the
state government had failed to protect the rights of the Reangs
and was now blaming the RSS for taking up their cause.

"Why should we let anyone Let away with allegations? We have
changed our stand and have decided to answer such allegations.
This will prevent such people from making irresponsible charges
in future," RSS sources told The Asian Age on Wednesday.

"Earlier, the RSS was too busy with its growth. It did not have
the time to reply to each and every allegation made against it.

Neither did it think it was necessary. Today it has established
itself. And when it is engaged in scores of welfare projects all
over the country, why should it take any blame?" the sources
added.

Of late, even, the RSS leaders have shed their aloofness and have
come to the forefront on several issues.

For example, before a defamation suit was filed against Mr Kesri,
he was criticised by RSS chief Rajju Bhaiyya in a strongly-worded
press statement, hitherto considered to be rare.

The open letter against Mr Lalthanhawla was equally harsh, with
the RSS demanding to know who was communal: the Congress or the
RSS. "On the count of secularism... he has give an explanation
about the action his government has taken to uphold the values of
great secularism. How many Christian goondas were arrested, how
many of them were prosecuted and how many of them were punsihed
for their crimes against the sacred principle of secularism," the
RSS letter said.

"...he has to give a convincing reply regarding the steps he has
taken to punish the culprits of such a serious an committed
against democracy, humanism and secularism, the three basic and
upper. most sacred principles of our national heritage, life and
culture," the letter added.
