Advertisements created by Apple computer featuring Tibet's exiled
religious leader, the Dalai Lama, will not be run in Asia because
the company claims he is not asily recongnised The company's
explanation for the move has been criticised by the Tibetan
spiritual leader's spokesman in London. according to the south
China Morning post. think that Apple computer does not want
to offend the Chinese=94. said Tseten Samdup, who added the Dalai
Lama's fame had been boosted by frequent attacks from Beijing.
The Dalai Lama gave permission for his face to be used across
the United States as part of Apple's hink Different campaign.
Apple's interim CEO Steve Jobs said at the launch of the ad
campaign, hink Different celebrates the soul of the Apple brand-
that creative people with passion can change the world for the
better=94. But Apple computer's Asia-Pacific marketing director
Vincent Lum Kan-Fai explained the Dalai Lama was not being used
in Asia as the company wanted asily recognised figures in the
region and was ticking to those who are well-known
