Prime Minister Atal Behari on Wednesday assured Afghanistan
President Burhanuddin Burhani of ull political support in his
struggle again Taliban occupation of his country.

Mr Rabbani called on Mr Vajpayee on Wednesday afternoon and the
meeting lasted for over 40 minutes. During the meeting, Mr
Rabbani informed Mr Vajpayee of Pakistan's role in helping
Taliban forces in Afghanistan.

Briefing reporters here, a senior ministry of external affairs
official said, r Rabbani gave an account of the situation in
Afghanistan.

He was categorical that the people of Afghanistan feel they are
under the occupation of Pakistan. Mr Rabbani also said that
Taliban is a creation of Pakistan.

The official added that the Afghanistan President informed Mr
Vajpayee that Pakistan is running terrorist camps in Afghanistan.

r Rabbani said that this has been profiled and highlighted in
the recent strikes by the United States on alleged terrorist
camps in Afghanistan.

He also said that Pakistan is also training terrorists in
Afghanistan for action in India. There is Pakistan military
presence on the soil of Afghanistan, the MEA official said.

The President thanked Mr Vajpayee for his political support and
the humanitarian aid given by India to the victims of war in his
country.

The Indian Prime Minister assured Mr Rabbani of India's continued
olitical support in his struggle and hoped for a on-aligned
and sovereign Afghanistan.

Asked if India will recognise the Taliban-run government in
Afghanistan if the Taliban forces take over the whole of the
country, the MEA official refused to comment saying it was only
speculation.

Among the other bilateral meetings, Mr Vajpayee has met United
Secretary-General Kofi Annan, South African deputy president
Thabo Mbeki, Bangladesh foreign minister Abdus Samad, Cuban
President Fidel Castro, the Vietnamese Prime Minister and the
foreign minister of Colombia.
