Introduction: India refutes American media allegations
India has rejected insinuations in articles published in two
American newspapers that Christians are being ill-treated in the
country, reports PTI.
In its rebuttal to, the articles published in Washington Post
and Los Angles Times, the Indian embassy asserted that the
reports tended to attribute communal motives to one or two
criminal incidents and concludes that India's 23 million
Christians are under some kind of threat.
Referring to the "deplorable incident" of rape of nuns in Madhya
Pradesh, it pointed to the statement of Home minister LK Advani
condemning the "heinous" incident and calling for strongest
punishment for the perpetrators.
"Unfortunately, crimes cannot be eliminated from any society. At
the same time, it would be incorrect to draw the conclusion that
isolated incidents or statements are a signal that a society
like India, which has been known for centuries for its religious
tolerance and has been a home to a large number of faiths. can
single out one community for attack," the statement emphasised.
