The BJP today reacted sharply to the Congress assertion that Pakistan
was not isolated in the international community on the Kargil issue.
Encouraged by the support of the US, Russia, the UK and Japan, the BJP
charged the Congress with raising a discordant voice at a time when
the entire world is one with India in condemning Pakistan.
"It may be recalled that during the 1962 war, the Communists' was the
sole discordant voice. History has not forgiven them. In 1999, as
the nation stand united to the last man and woman, the Congress has
joined the Communists in raising a discordant voice. History will not
forgive the Congress," party general secretary Narendra Modi said.
The Sonia establishment, which has been routinely conducting
post-mortem of every statement from the international community today
said: "Pakistan is not isolated .... G-8 statement does not say that
Kashmir is an integral part of India," Ms Gandhi's chief spokesman of
external affairs Natwar Singh told reporters.
Taking serious exception to the Congress' attack, BJP general
secretary said the Congress was seeking to portray diplomatic success
by the nation as "internationalisation". "By extension, their
criticism amounts to criticising the international community's
condemnation of the violation of the LoC by the Pakistan," Mr Modi
said.
The BJP leader said the Atal Behari Vajpayee government has been
successful on two crucial fronts - military and diplomatic. "Credit
for the first goes to the Indian forces who, backed by the Vajpayee
government's unequivocal and clear mandate, have been victoriously
fighting the enemy intruders." He said that the success in getting
the support of international community showed that the Vajpayee
government has changed the course of Indian diplomacy.
