In yet another strike
on the Hindi-speaking communities in Assam, eight Biharis, including one
woman and three children, were gunned down Thursday night by United People's
Democratic Solidarity (UPDS) militants in Assam's Karbi Anglong district,
according to a top police official here.
Armed UPDS cadres raided
Rongnagar village, about seven km from Bokolia outpost, under Howraghat
police station and mowed down the eight in a hail of gunfire, Additional
Director General of Police (Operations) G M Srivastava told PTI.
Police have launched
an intensive combing operation in the district under the supervision of
the SP and senior police officials, he said.
The cause of the sudden
attack on the Biharis by the UPDS was being ascertained, Srivastava said.
Chief Minister Prafulla
Kumar Mahanta has condemned the massacre and ordered the district administration
to take all suitable steps to apprehend the killers.
More than 100 Hindi-speaking
people have been killed by militants in the last two months in the state.
