The 15-day residential
training camp for village temple poojaris organised by the Vishwa Hindu
Parishad (VHP) at Rameswaram was inaugurated on November 13 by His Holiness
Shri Jayendra Saraswati of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam. Shri S.
Vedantam, international vice-president of VHP welcomed Swamiji at the entrance
of Goswami Mutt, a multi-service complex of the Parishad where the camp
was held.
Gramakovil Poojarigal
Peravai, and organisation sponsored by the VHP has been conducting similar
camps and all village temple poojaris performing pooja in the grama devatha
(village deity) temples in the State have been trained in the 19 camps
held earlier.
Addressing the poojaris
who had assembled from nearby villages to participate in the camp Swamiji
exhorted the poojaris to work as guardians of our culture in the villages.
Swamiji appreciated efforts of the VHP in organisation for convincing the
government of Tamil Nadu to give as pension Rs 500 to the 1500 poojaris
here. At the end of the programme Swamiji blessed all the poojaris.
Shri R.B.V.S Manian,
kshetra organising secretary of the Parishad explained objectives of the
training programme. He called upon the poojaris to work against the
atheist political parties and defeat them in the forthcoming assembly elections
of Tamil Nadu. A Resolution to this effect was passed urging the
poojaris to assemble in lakhs at the proposed fourth state level conference
of poojaris to be held at Madurai. Another resolution called upon
the people to ask the Government to entrust administration of Hindu temples
to an autonomous board.

address.
