Is Taliban's act justified in Quran? (Letters to the Editor)

Is Taliban's act justified in Quran? (Letters to the Editor)

Author: Dr K. P. Agarwal, Lucknow
Publication: BJP Today
Date: April 16-30, 2001

Apropos of Syed Shahabuddin's letter the world is feeling outraged at the Taliban's destruction of two statues of Buddha in Afghanistan. But even a cursory reading of Quran shall tell us in clearest terms that Taliban is simply complying with the commands of Allah as contained in it. This is precisely the reason as to why the response to this outrage from Muslim countries is muted, half-hearted and totally ineffective. The approach of Taliban is in total consonance with the approach of Islam towards non-Islamic countries and their culture and civilization. The. examples of Egypt, Syria, Iraq, Iran, Turkey etc. are before the whole world. Islam while converting the masses of these countries through violence also utterly destroyed all vestiges of their culture and heritage. A large Part of India survived because Hindus faced the fury and onslaught of Islam with unrivalled courage and sacrifice, with blood and armed resistance.

It will be in the utmost interest of all non-Islamic civilization if they understand the foreboding message of Islam in the words of one of the greatest world level scholars of Islam, S Abul Hasan Ali Nadwi popularly known as Ali Mian, to whom the present and the past Prime Ministers have been showing great respect by their visits to his house in Lucknow. In his book titled 'Islamic Concept of Prophethood' published by Academy of Islamic Research and Publications, Lucknow (2nd and 3rd Edition 1979) he writes thus on page 115:

"The life stories of the Prophets related in the Scripture, often briefly, often in detail, but repeated over and over again, lead to the same conclusion which is neither dubious nor changing; and this is that they always emerge victorious against their enemies despite all hurdles and seemingly insurmountable difficulties. This happens in two ways; either the opponents are converted into faithful believers and obedient followers of the prophet or they are defeated and destroyed".

Ali Mian farther adds (P 116):

"For the salvation of humanity depends on its submission to the prophetic biddings.... apart from great cause of prophets, no other interest or issue whether individual or national has the least importance in the eyes of God".

It is clear from above that what is happening in Afghanistan is not confined to Taliban, but is a deeprooted psychic phenomenon of the Islamic world.
