Joins the NGO Coalition for International Criminal Court

February 1, 2002 Human Rights Congress for Bangladeshi Minorities (HRCBM) and Hotline Human Rights Coordinator Rosaline Costa visited Bhola, Bangladesh. During an extensive visit of several regions within Bhola district of Bangladesh On January 23-25, 2002, HRCBM interviewed many minority victims of Islamic Fundamentalist assault after the October 1, 2001 General Elections of Bangladesh. The victims related numerous cases of rape, torture, beating and widespread looting of the minority Hindu community in this district. A detailed report of the visit is available at: http://www.hrcbm.org/NEWLOOK/Bhola.html. Reports from the victims suggest that the violence is targeted towards the minority (especially Hindu) community of Bangladesh. Among other  areas, the visit covered Bhola, Kortarhat, Osmangonj under Char Fashon police station, Gozaria under Lalmohon Union, North Char Fashon under Osmangonj Union, Kortar Hat, Fatemabad, Char Annada Prashad, Char Piaramohon, and Lord Hardinj. HRCBM representatives are providing support for the following three victims of rape from village Annadaprasad, Lalmohan police station, district Bhola, Bangladesh:

1. Rita Rani Das (8) daughter of Mr. Gouranga Das and Mrs. Rinku Das,
2. Shikha Rani Das (12) daughter of Late Khitish Chandra Das and Mrs. Subhadra Rani Das,
3. Konika Rani Das (11) daugher of Late Netai Chandra Das and Mrs. Basanti Bala Das.

HRCBM is seeking generous donations for their education and rehabilitation as well as support of numerous such victims of rape and violence. HRCBM strongly condemns the numerous cases of rape, torture and looting, and demands that Bangladesh follow the International code of conduct and Bill of Rights and the articles that are enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) guidelines set forth for human life and dignity in The Menifesto 2000 of UNESCO. Bangladesh Government should immediately provide security to the distressed minorities and bring the criminals to justice. HRCBM is a worldwide campaign movement dedicated to protecting the Human rights of the minorities in Bangladesh. HRCBM also joined the NGO Coalition for International Criminal Court.
