Over 200 non-resident Indians (NRIs)
held a protest rally today condemning Pakistan's active support of terrorists
and urging the US government to take effective measures to combat terrorism
of any form.
"This rally marks the start of a
nation-wide drive to raise awareness among the American people and the
media about the role of Pakistan in spreading international terrorism,"
said Gaurang Desai, President of the Northern California chapter of the
Friends of India Society International (FISI).
This was the first in a series of
rallies to be held in the United States over the next two weeks. Los Angeles,
Houston, Atlanta and Boston are among the major cities where similar rallies
will be held.
"Pakistan is the global terror epicentre,"
Desai said, adding the world could not get rid of terrorism, if it did
not get rid of the terrorist camps in Pakistan. India has shown exemplary
restraint thus far by not attacking terrorist camps in Pakistan-occupied
Kashmir (PoK), the organisers said. (PTI)
