Thirteen persons who had given misleading
information to public about the Bajpe Shanishwara temple in December 1999
have been awarded three months rigorous imprisonment, said advocate PP
Hegde.
Hegde told mediapersons in Mangalore
on Sunday that the thirteen people, all residents of Bajpe, had organised
a press meet in the city and had talked ill of the temple and its management.
They had alleged that the temple
management had installed blaring loudspeakers which were ruining peace
in the area, he said. Also, they had said that the management was duping
people by asking them to pay up for services, Hegde said.
Judge B S Honnaswami delivered the
verdict in this regard and the 13 were tried in JMFC III court, he said.
The 13 who have been arrested are
former Zilla Panchayat member Pavana J Shetty, Jeevandas Shetty, John Moraes,
Juliette Moraes, Donna Frankie Moraes, Donna Mark Moraes, Harish Poojary,
Sharada Harish, Chandayya Suvarna, Zubair Sheikh, Shankar Shetty, Thimmappa
Gowda, Gopal Gowda and Ananda Gowda, he said.
