The State Women's Commission (SWC)
visited the Bangladesh Colony here, which of late has been the centre of
drug mafia operations.
A youth of the colony had died of
an overdose of drugs a few days back.
The chairperson of the SWC, M. Kamalam,
and member P. Khulsu were among the team that visited the colony.
The members met women in the two
divisions of the Corporation. The panel enquired about the reasons for
the widespread use of drugs among the residents, especially the youth.
The residents told the members of
the panel about the activities of an organisation that functioned under
the Aids Control Society. Syringes were easily available in the colony
and these were being used by those addicted to drugs.
