Four Islamic institutions are being
investigated for spreading militant Islam through visiting scholars from
Japan, Singapore, Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia, Nepal, Bhutan, and
the Maldives following a protest from a South East Asian nation. Refusing
to name them, officials said each institution received forty scholars annually,
and were being paid a total of $2.5 million yearly from donors in Saudi
Arabia, Jordan, UAE, Pakistan, Kuwait, and Egypt. The programme to impart
militant education commenced about four years ago, but investigations following
the complaint were launched four months back by the UPA government. While
ruling out any links with the Al- Qaeda, the complaint was specific about
the militancy being spread by the scholars on their return from India.
