Sensitive documents recovered
Two Pakistani nationals have been arrested
here with sensitive documents pertaining to vital Army installations, police
said today.
On a tip off from military intelligence, the
district police last night arrested a Pakistani while he was moving near the
Military Hospital in Jalandhar Cantonement. He was identified as Khurram Shehzad
Ali alias Junaid Alam, a resident of Okara area of Pakistan, Senior Superintendent
of Police Ishwar Singh said here today.
During preliminary interrogation, it was found
that Khurram had come into the country about six months back on the pretext
of watching the Indo-Pak cricket series at Mohali and failed to return to
his country.
He was then involved in gathering information
of military importance and regarding vital installations, an official release
quoting the SSP said.
On the information provided by him, police
arrested another Pakistani national, identified as Ali Mohammed alias Qasim
Mata alias Mohd Saqlain from Rama Mandi Chowk today, Singh said. Ali Mohammed
had been living in the country for nearly two years and gathering information
of military importance to his country, Singh said.
Army maps, camera, railway and bus tickets,
cash receipts and driving license were recovered from them. During investigation
it was found that Khurram and Ali Mohammed had been receiving financial help
from their mentors in Pakistan, Singh said.
According to receipts recovered from their
possession Khurram had on November 4 collected an amount of Rs 10,100 and
Ali Mohammed Rs 18,562 through a money transferring agency. However, the money
was routed through Dubai, the police official said.
Singh said Khurram, on his arrival in India,
disassociated himself from cricket fans and started living at Shaheed Udham
Singh Nagar. He was posing as a dealer in water purifiers.
About Ali Mohammed, the SSP said he had gone
from Pakistan to Nepal about two years back where he got married. He later
sneaked into India to live in Abadpura area of the city.
The military information collected by them
was sent to Pakistan via internet, he said.
A case has been registered against them under
the Official Secrets Act, Emigration Act and Foreigners Act.
