Former Pakistan premier Nawaz Sharif has charged
that President Pervez Musharraf was acting like a "terrorist" and
asked the United States to sever ties with him if it really wanted to wage
a war against terror.
"Musharraf has himself said that he is
a commando ... in my opinion there is no difference between a commando and
a terrorist," he said addressing a gathering.
Sharif, who was ousted by Musharraf in a bloodless
coup in 1999 and forced into exile, said if the United States really wanted
to wage a war against terrorists, it has to begin with the Pakistan President.
He also said Musharraf had done more damage
to Pakistan than India. "Even India has not done so much damage to Pakistan
as the General (Musharraf) has ... What I say is the truth."
Sharif, who attended a meeting of Alliance
for Restoration of Democracy on Sunday along with rival turned ally and former
Pakistan Premier Benazir Bhutto, said, "The people of Pakistan have to
decide whether the country should be run by its 15 crore population or a handful
of army generals."
