Deputy chief minister R R Patil on Thursday
announced a sum of Rs 7.50 lakh and a government job for the next of kin of
the cops who died in the violence.
"A majority of the people in Bhiwandi
are in favour of a new police station. Only 200-250 troublemakers tried to
vitiate the atmosphere. It would be grossly unfair to hold an entire community
responsible for the foolishness of a handful. Irrespective of their religion,
miscreants will be penalised," said Patil.
The Raza Academy, which stated the land belonged
to the Waqf Board, was asked to furnish evidence in support of its claim.
